Creative Hearts United Secures Funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery Grants Programme

Enhancing Access to Traditional Filipino Arts

The fund will cover core organisational expenses and drive the cultural dance workshop project, an initiative designed to promote Filipino heritage through traditional dance, music, costume, and performance. Through a series of structured workshops, participants explore iconic Philippine cultural dances, and learn festival‑inspired choreography. Each session blends movement, storytelling, and cultural education to strengthen participants’ connection to Filipino traditions.

Creative Hearts United has received a grant made possible thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.

The cultural dance workshop project facilitates performing arts engagement for the large Filipino diaspora in the area. The participants are mostly NHS workers, carers, homemakers, and youth who want to stay connected to their heritage whilst already embracing the British culture, particularly through Philippine folk dances. The project will particularly benefit workshop participants in Burmantofts and Richmond Hill, Gipton and Harehills, Killingbeck and Seacroft, and Temple Newsam.

The workshop will feature traditional Filipino dance delivered by the YFG (Yorkshire Filipino Group) Cultural Dance Troupe, alongside music and performance, arts and crafts, and cultural education. Funding will support equipment hire, costumes and props, materials, transportation, and venue hire to ensure accessibility to all participants.

Revson Ignacio, Head Choreographer and Creative Hearts United‘s board of trustees, said:

“The volunteers and trustees are incredibly grateful to the Postcode Lottery Trust for supporting our Cultural Dance Project for 2026. This funding will enable us to continue empowering our community through dance, creativity, and cultural connection, while sharing the richness of Filipino heritage with wider audiences.”

Delivered Through Postcode Trusts and Groundwork

The Grassroots Grants programme, which is a partnership between People’s Postcode Lottery and Groundwork, has helped over 400 small, local organisations in England through unrestricted funding that supports the important work organisations deliver in their communities. The funding offered is unrestricted and therefore flexible. It can be used where it is most needed.

The grant programme is made possible thanks to funds raised by players of People’s Postcode Lottery and is awarded through Postcode Local Trust, Postcode Places Trust, Postcode Neighbourhood Trust and Postcode Society Trust.

Laura Chow, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said:

“We are delighted that players of People’s Postcode Lottery will support small community-based organisations through this funding opportunity, thanks to our partnership with Groundwork UK. I encourage smaller, local charities and groups to visit our trust websites for more details.”

Every now and then, thanks to the generosity of our donors, we get the chance to rehearse in a proper studio — and it makes all the difference.
The fund will help drive our Philippine cultural arts programme such as this folk dance workshop taken last year 2025.

The People’s Postcode Lottery Grassroots Grants Fund is administered by the national community charity, Groundwork.

Graham Duxbury, Groundwork’s UK Chief Executive, said:

“The value of locally led action is second to none when it comes to making lasting positive change in the communities which need it most. Unrestricted funding for small organisations with expert local knowledge and lived experience is a key component to ensuring communities can take control of their own destinies, and we’re pleased to be working with the Community Programmes team at People’s Postcode Lottery to provide this.”
