The Leeds Barrio Fiesta 2022, hosted at the vibrant Ramgarhia Sports Centre, was a spectacular celebration that brought together the Filipino community and their friends in Leeds. The festivities commenced at 9 am with a grand Santa Cruzan parade, setting the stage for a day filled with cultural richness and camaraderie. Approximately 1,000 festival-goers gathered to partake in the festivities, creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness.
Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Leeds City Council’s Cllr Asghar Khan and Cllr Luke Farley, whose presence added a touch of prestige to the event. Their support underscored the importance of cultural diversity and community engagement in Leeds.
The event was masterfully organised by the Filipino Leeds Community (FLC), a non-profit organization composed of dedicated Filipino and British-Filipino volunteers. FLC’s mission is to promote and celebrate the unique facets of Filipino culture within British society, and the Leeds Barrio Fiesta perfectly embodied this mission.
At the helm of this remarkable event was Mrs. Emma Chu, the vice-chairperson of FLC and the event manager. Her unwavering dedication and meticulous planning were instrumental in making the Leeds Barrio Fiesta 2022 an unforgettable experience for all attendees. Mrs. Chu expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved, including the tireless members of the committees who worked diligently to bring this special event to fruition.
The day came to a splendid conclusion with the presentation of the winners of the singing and dancing competitions, showcasing the incredible talent within the Filipino community in Leeds.
