On the evening of 28 November 2024, the Filipino community in West Yorkshire was proudly represented by Creative Hearts United and the Yorkshire Filipino Group at the prestigious High Sheriff’s Dinner held at Cedar Court Hotel in Bradford. This event, hosted by Professor Adeeba Malik CBE DL, the current High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, was an extraordinary occasion that brought together dignitaries, charity organisations, and community leaders from across West Yorkshire.
Professor Malik’s appointment as the High Sheriff of West Yorkshire is ground breaking. As the first ethnic minority woman to hold this historic position, she embodies the values of diversity and inclusion while championing social justice and community cohesion. Her tenure reflects a commitment to celebrating and empowering the diverse communities that make West Yorkshire unique.
The High Sheriff’s Dinner was an opportunity to showcase the contributions of various communities and organisations, making it a perfect platform for Creative Hearts United and the Yorkshire Filipino Group to highlight Filipino culture and heritage. Both Filipino organisations were represented by Mrs. Emma Chu, vice chairperson of Creative Hearts United and Ms. Gigie Fletcher of Yorkshire Filipino Group.
Creative Hearts United and the Yorkshire Filipino Group brought their passion for promoting Philippine arts, culture, and community engagement to the event. Their participation underscored the vibrant presence of the Filipino community in the UK and their commitment to fostering cultural appreciation and integration. They were honoured to have been part of such a historic evening, carrying with them the hope and determination to continue their advocacy for cultural awareness and unity.
