29 July 2023, Lancaster Grand Theatre. A delegation of Filipino volunteers, representing the Filipino Leeds Community (FLC) and led by Mrs Emma Chu, co-founder of Creative Hearts United, received an invitation to take part in the programme of the UK Philippines Universe 2023 Pageant.
This event, held on 29 July 2023 at Lancaster Grand Theatre, featured their performance of the traditional Singkil folk dance, originating from the Maranao people of Lake Lanao, a Muslim ethnolinguistic group in Mindanao, Philippines. This dance, renowned as the royal portrayal of a prince and princess gracefully manoeuvring between crisscrossed bamboo poles, was executed with impeccable precision and accompanied by the syncopated rhythm of claps, showcasing its rich cultural heritage.
