01 December 2013, St Augustine Catholic Church Hall. “Move On Philippines,” a fundraising concert dedicated to aiding the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, one of the most powerful storms of all time. Haiyan, with wind speeds exceeding 150 mph and a devastating storm surge, left widespread destruction in its wake.
The event featured the Leeds Filipino-British Kids Choir, organised by Emma Chu. These talented young performers, reflecting both British and Filipino heritage, delivered a heartfelt rendition of “Sapagkat Diyos ang Pag-ibig” (Because our God is love). Their performance showcased both their remarkable talent and their commitment to helping Haiyan’s victims.
One proud parent in the audience expressed admiration, saying, “Well done, kids, galing talaga (really great). Thank you so much for all your effort.” This sentiment echoed throughout the venue, recognising the dedication of both the children and the organisers.
“Move On Philippines” symbolized resilience, unity, and the strength of the global Filipino community. It highlighted the power of music to unite diverse backgrounds for a common cause and raised vital funds for Haiyan relief efforts.
As the concert concluded, a sense of pride and solidarity filled the hall. “Move On Philippines” not only provided crucial support for Typhoon Haiyan victims but also strengthened bonds within the Filipino-British community and their cultural heritage.
This fundraising concert demonstrated the healing and transformative power of music. The Leeds Filipino-British Kids Choir, sang their hearts out and sowed seeds of hope for a brighter future in Haiyan’s aftermath.
