9 December 2023 — The spirit of Christmas came alive at the Edmund House Club as the Renalytes, a group of dedicated Filipino nurses working in the Renal department in Leeds, gathered for their annual Christmas party. This cherished tradition, spanning more than a decade, has become a symbol of unity, joy, and cultural celebration for the Renalytes.

Creative Hearts United proudly supported the Yorkshire Filipino Group’s Christmas Party at the Edmund House Club. Our dedicated trustees worked tirelessly to ensure the success of this festive event, showcasing our commitment to the talented dance performers known as the Yorkshire Filipino Group.

The Leeds Barrio Fiesta 2022, hosted at the vibrant Ramgarhia Sports Centre, was a spectacular celebration that brought together the Filipino community and their friends in Leeds. The festivities commenced at 9 am with a grand Santa Cruzan parade, setting the stage for a day filled with cultural richness and camaraderie. Approximately 1,000 festival-goers gathered to partake in the festivities, creating an atmosphere of joy and togetherness.

The Santa Cruzan parade marked the opening of Leeds Barrio Fiesta 2022, receiving a warm welcome from the Filipino community in Leeds. Parents lovingly adorned their children in elaborate gowns and suits, reminiscent of the long-standing Flores de Mayo procession typically celebrated at the end of May in the Philippines.

The Welcoming of New Nurses event in Leeds, organised by the Filipino Leeds Community (FLC), a not-for-profit organisation serving the Filipino community in Leeds, featured a captivating performance of the graceful ‘Pandanggo sa Ilaw’ dance. This traditional folk dance, hailing from rural Philippines, is renowned for its dancers’ exquisite skill in balancing flickering candlelights, reflecting a rich cultural heritage.

The Renalytes’ Christmas Party was made unforgettable by the mesmerising performance of “Anne to the Power of 3.” This trio, consisting of Ms Raeanne Chu, Ms Marianne Veraque, and Ms Roxeanne Veraque, brought modern dance to the stage, leaving the audience in awe of their talent and choreography by Mrs Emma Chu.

In a heartfelt performance at the Renal Department’s Christmas party in 2016, the Renalytes Kids, the children of a group of Filipino-British nurses at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, brought two vibrant Filipino folk dances to life: the Itik-Itik and the Bulaklakan.

In a heartwarming display of their Filipino heritage, the Renalytes Kids, the children of a group of Filipino-British nurses from the Renal Department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, stole the show during their Christmas celebrations of 2015. Their dance medley was a dynamic fusion of traditional and modern Filipino dances, creating a captivating tapestry of movement and music.

The Leeds Barrio Fiesta 2014 Santa Cruzan Parade unfolded as a momentous celebration of Filipino culture and the cherished value of ‘Bayanihan,’ symbolising unity and community cooperation. This grand event was organised by the Filipino Leeds Association (FLA), a non-profit Filipino organisation based in Leeds, and meticulously curated by Mr. Ronald and Mrs Emma Chu.
