Joint Efforts of Yorkshire Filipino Group and Filipino Community Bradford’s NJR Drum and Lyre Group

On 18 May 2024, Lister Park in Bradford was filled with the lively sounds of drumbeats and the rhythmic movements of dance as the Yorkshire Filipino Group (YFG) and the Filipino Community Bradford’s NJR Drum and Lyre Group gathered for a joint rehearsal. This vibrant event marked a significant step in preparing for the upcoming Bradford Barrio Fiesta Filipino Festival, set to take place on 1 June 2024 at Lady Hill Park, Allerton, Bradford.

The day began with a warm and inviting community picnic, where families and friends shared traditional Filipino dishes, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and togetherness. The picnic provided a perfect opportunity for both groups to bond and build a sense of unity before diving into their respective rehearsals.

Creative Hearts United, known for its dedication to promoting social and wellness activities within the Filipino community across Yorkshire, played a pivotal role in supporting the YFG Cultural Dance troupe. The dance troupe, choreographed by the talented team of Tebs, Revson, Jade, Vhie, and Emma, showcased their skills and enthusiasm, preparing to bring a contemporary interpretation of various Philippine folk dances to the festival.

Meanwhile, the NJR Drum and Lyre Group, led by the dynamic duo Nina Ricci and Dolce, filled the park with their harmonious melodies and precise drumbeats. Their performance added a musical dimension to the event, enhancing the overall experience and setting a festive tone for the upcoming Barrio Fiesta.

The joint rehearsal was more than just a practice session; it was a celebration of Filipino culture and heritage. Participants of all ages came together to share their passion for music and dance, demonstrating the rich traditions that bind the Filipino community. The collaboration between YFG and NJR Drum and Lyre Group highlighted the strength of unity and the importance of community support in preserving cultural heritage.
