Dinagyang Dance Tribe’s Triumph at Ryde Illumination Carnival 2023

02 September 2023, Ryde, Isle of Wright. The Dinagyang Dance Tribe from West Yorkshire graced the Ryde Illumination Carnival 2023 on the Isle of Wight in a spectacular display of cultural diversity. Through the generosity of Ms Aireen Gauntlet, we were invited by Equal IW, a charity organisation dedicated to equality and diversity, their performance wowed both judges and spectators alike.

Together with the Sinulog Tribe and candidates from Asian Global UK, their colourful and captivating performance earned them two top prizes. The Jacob Challenge Cup for Best Floral Costume Entry for 2023 celebrated their meticulous attention to detail and authenticity in their costumes, paying homage to their Filipino heritage.

Not content with just one award, the entry also secured second place in the Ryde Carnival Spirit of the Carnival Award 2023, a testament to their ability to connect with the audience and convey the joy of carnival through their artistry.

What’s remarkable is that this talented group comprises individuals from various regions across the UK, united by their passion for Filipino culture and dedication to preserving and sharing it.

Their energetic tribal dance showcased the best of Filipino culture and celebrated diversity on a grand scale. The Dinagyang Dance Tribe’s journey from West Yorkshire to the Isle of Wight was a testament to the power of cultural exchange and the universal language of dance.
