10 June 2023 Hounslow Central Park. A passionate ensemble of dancers, hailing from West Yorkshire, left the London Barrio Fiesta sa Hounslow audience spellbound with their dynamic rendition of the iconic Dinagyang dance. Their flawlessly synchronised movements, vivid costumes, and pulsating rhythms transported onlookers to the bustling streets of Iloilo City, Philippines, encapsulating the very heart and soul of unity and celebration that defines this beloved festival, ultimately earning them the prestigious grand prize in the Cultural Dance competition.
Through their extraordinary performance, this group of dancers not only unveiled their immense talent but also displayed unwavering dedication, proudly representing Filipino culture on a national stage. In a remarkable endeavour this year, the Filipino Leeds Community (FLC), led by its vice-chairperson, Mrs Emma Chu, united 37 exceptional performers to showcase one of the Philippines’ most renowned and vibrant festival dances. This achievement was made possible in part thanks to a grant from the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust, facilitated by Creative Hearts United co-founder, Mr Ronald Chu.
Mr Ronald Chu’s craftsmanship brought the warrior headdress costumes and props to life, infusing the performance with a unique and captivating dimension. The choreography, orchestrated by Mr Neil Quiachon, breathed life into the dance routine with seamless precision, while Mrs Cherry Mullins’ creative genius radiated through the captivating costume worn by the lead dancer.
Ladies and gentlemen, it is with immense pride that we present to you the FLC Dinagyang Warrior, representing the vibrant Filipino Leeds Community in the prestigious cultural dance competition at London Barrio Fiesta Sa Hounslow Central!
